against Cancer
Insights and Statistics on World Cancer Day (4th Feb)
Cancer is a disease of the cells, which are the body’s basic building
blocks. Cancer occurs when abnormal cells grow in an uncontrolled
way. These abnormal cells can damage or invade the surrounding
琀椀ssues, or spread to other parts of the body, causing further damage.
Cancer remains one of the leading causes of death worldwide. According
to the World Health Organisa琀椀on (WHO), in 2021, the world crossed
a sobering new threshold – an es琀椀mated 20 million people were
diagnosed with cancer, and 10 million died. The most common cancers
worldwide are breast cancer, lung cancer, colorectal cancer, prostate
cancer, and stomach cancer.
