mindfulness
with a focus on
sleep provides an
opportunity to develop
the mental calm
needed to allow sleep
to return naturally.
Mindfulness
meditation works
well alongside
other strategies that address behaviours
contributing to ongoing sleep problems.
Common behaviours that hinder good
sleep include spending excessive time in
bed, napping, consuming too much caffeine,
using your bed as an of昀椀ce, and relying
on the TV to fall asleep. Mindfulness
meditation complements these behavioural
changes to help prevent insomnia.
MINDFULNESS
MEDITATION
IS NOT
Mindfulness meditation is not simply another
relaxation technique, although it may leave you
feeling more at ease.
It’s not about positive thinking, going into a trance,
clearing your mind of all thoughts, or focusing on a
speci昀椀c word or mantra. Most importantly, it’s not
about trying to fall asleep.
