O
ver the past
decade,
femtech—
technology
designed speci昀椀cally
for women’s health—
has shifted from a
niche curiosity into
a booming global
market. By 2025,
the femtech industry
is projected to be
worth anywhere
between USD 46.7
billion and USD
60.9 billion, with
Australia itself on
track to exceed USD
1.3 billion by 2030.
Innovations now
span menstrual
trackers and fertility
wearables through to
menopause-support
platforms, wearable
breast pumps,
telehealth maternity
care and even smart
period-proof apparel.
With both global
heavyweights
and homegrown
innovators pushing
personalised
solutions, the space
is brimming with
promise. At the
same time, questions
around data privacy,
clinical rigour and
equitable access
continue to surface.
What Is Femtech?
“Femtech” (short for female
technology) refers to any
software, device or service
that addresses women’s
health needs—ranging
from reproductive health
and pregnancy through to
menopause, sexual wellness and
general wellbeing. Although
early-stage menstrual-tracking
apps emerged around 2012, the
term itself wasn’t coined until
2016 by Clue founder Ida Tin.
Today, femtech solutions leverage
AI, wearables, telemedicine and
data analytics to provide more
targeted, personalised care than
traditional healthcare channels.
