A gentle nudge:
TIPS THAT HELP KEEP YOUR DEFENCE STRONG
• Know what’s normal for
your breasts. Feel for
changes—lumps, texture
shifts, nipple changes or
anything unusual—and
don’t shrug them off.
• Go for that screening
– its free. BreastScreen
Australia is a joint
initiative of the
Australian and
state and territory
governments and
aims to reduce illness
and death from
breast cancer by
detecting the disease
early. Women over
40 can have a free
mammogram every 2
years and women
aged 50 to 74 are
invited to screen.
• Stay moving. Activity
helps keep your weight
in check—a key factor
in reducing risk.
• Cut back on alcohol.It’s a
known risk factor. Every
drink you skip helps.
• Eat rainbow, live
strong. A balanced
diet, rich in veggies,
昀椀bre, wholegrains and
lean protein supports
overall health.
• Chat with your doc
if it’s in the family.
If breast cancer runs
in your family, you
might need earlier or
specialised screening.
• Research rules. Clinical
trials are helping
shape better, kinder
treatments—keeping
more of us alive and well.
• Talk it up. Sharing your
story—or listening to
someone else’s—helps
break stigma, raises
awareness, and boosts
emotional support.
Breast cancer doesn’t have to be a ticking time-bomb. With awareness,
healthy choices, and early screening, you’ve got more control than you think.
Keep an eye on your best breast defence and help others do the same.
